Hi,

Please help answer some questions on MPLS to help me understand the concepts better.

Q1) Pseudowire concept is used only for MPLS L2VPN and is not supported for MPLS L3VPN. Is this correct? Please provide doc/url

Q2) L2TPv3, EoMPLS, VPLS which are MPLS L2VPN technologies cannot be used under VRF's and needs to be configured globally. Is this correct? Please provide doc/url

Q3) In the event of failure of a link another Labelled switched path can be used using MPLS and it is not a MUST to configure MPLS TE Fastreroute feature. Is this correct?

Thanks

Hi kunal,

Please find answers

1- yes psedowire is used for MPLS l2 vpn solutions and not for L3. Moreover it is layer2 independent.means you can run any protocol end to end.

before packet enters the l2 domain.

    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-kompella-l2vpn-l2vpn-00

2- yes config do not contains any vrf stuff..it is purely l2 stuff

    l2tpv3:  http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-mpls-over-l2tpv3-03

There are many doc. for other technology ..you can try google for details

3- Yes it is true that FRR is not needed to reroute if you want your premium customers running voice to keep on complaining. .he he he.

Ok..See all redundant path labels are stored in LIB and the best one is stored in LFIB..so even if you do not use FFR you will reroute traffic

but it takes more time to know that there is link failure with help of only IGP.

FRR offers 50ms failover time..So if your network is having voice customer (which demands immediate failover) FRR is better choice.

Hope this is helpful to you

Regards

Mahesh
