Hi All,
In my multicast VPN setup, Source device and destination (Camera & recorders) are connected directly to the vrf interface on the PE device over a vlan
the setup is like
camera--L2 switch--PE--P(Cloud)--PE--L2 switch--Recorder.
in this case where i can place the RP ? In all the case studies i reffered is using CE router is acting as the RP for the customer. But what can be done if no router is attached to PE ?
Kindly Help..
Thanks..
Sajan

Yes you can do that in that case that router will act like P/PE router.

Hi Sajan
In this case you can make PE interface(customer facing, which is connected to cam Recorder, part of vrf) as RP.
ip pim rp address vrf ABC
MPLS Core-------------------PE(1.1.1.1)----------------------(1.1.1.2)CAM
Make 1.1.1.1 as RP in PE router for that vrf.

Thanks i tried and it working..
I have 250-300 cameras across 75 + PE's,
- in this case can i fix RP on some high end P device to handle the traffic ?
- How can i segregate the cameras across 4 RPs and inside vrf ?

Hi Sajan
1. RP Can be filed at PE only not on P because P router doesn't understand vrf.
2. Inside vrf you need to define different RPs on for different groups, which means your cameras should fall in different range.e.g. 1.1.1.0/24 has 1.1.1.1 rp, 2.2.2.0 has 2.2.2.1 rp
If your issue is resolved as per mentioned subject please close the case.

Yes, but can we make any P router (since its having High end hardware) act like PE ( introducing one loopback in that vrf) and advertising that loopback address as RP address ?
Your website is amazing...I will try all those case studies
Can you recommend any case study which will help in this case...
Thanks a lot..
