Cisco ISE APP to Cisco ISE Virtual (Probebly ver 2.4)

Hi Community,

Looking for some up-to-date documentation on how to migrate from a ISE appliance to a virtual ISE instance.

Looking for any gotchas regarding licensing etc. Or is this just a backup and restore task? Or would it be easier to build the platform and then transpose configuration manually?

Any help would be appreciated.

 Hi gbekmezi-DD,

Appreciate the response, this is more of an upgrade than scaling out. All personas are active and there are only 2 appliances.

So I expect to be backing up ver 2.0 then restoring on ver 2.4 (If possible).

Cheers, Jay

Backup and restore would be the best way to do it.  Build a parallel 2.4 deployment, test against it to make sure the rules are working and then change our network devices to point at the 2.4 deployment.

You don’t have to backup and restore unless you want to. Fire up your virtual appliances and join them to the cluster and then phase out your physical appliances as you build out your virtual infrastructure. You’d also have to be careful to follow resource reservation guidelines for VMs as well as purchase the VM instance licenses.
