Cisco ISE - Small deployment with Medium License

Basilisk

Hi everyone!

I hope you guys can help me with this problem. The client has purchased a medium VM license, but now is having problems with the SNS3655 virtual appliance recomended requirements because the server has not enough capacity. It will be deployed in a standalone mode.

- Can i install the OVA for a small VM and use the medium license without having a compliance warning?

- The minimum RAM the SNS3655 virtual appliance requires for production is 96GB? it will be 10.000 sessions maximum

Thanks for your time!

@Basilisk - if you deploy a VM that has a SNS-3615 spec then the VMM (Medium) license should step-down to a VMS (Small) license - there should be no warning - this is my experience with Smart Licensing - Smart Licensing will report that I have purchased a Medium, but I am consuming a Small license. That's working as designed.

Look at small size deployment for VM requirement. ( ISE require more HDD / CPU and RAM)

If i deploy a small VM SNS3615 equivalent, i will have a compliance warning for using a R-ISE.VMM-K9= license?

Here is a snippet of ISE VM licensing breakdown based on specs:

VM Category | RAM Range | Number of CPUs
Small 16 GB 12 CPUs
Medium 64 GB 16 CPUs
Large 256 GB 16 CPUs

If you deploy node/s with 16GB & 12 CPUs you are going to see the compliance warning as you mentioned.  A quick fix for this would be to boost your specs.  Note that in order to boost RAM/CPUs you will need to stop services, & halt the node.  If you do not have the resources my suggestion would be to work with your Cisco rep to work towards getting the proper licensing: R-ISE-VMS-K9=

HTH!

I agree with Arne, if you apply a medium license to a small deployment, no warning should pop up.
