Cisco ISE - URT

Hi team,

I want to upgrade a cisco ise server (two-node distributed deployment.) from 2.1 to 2.6 using backup/restore method.

If I use backup /restore method ,Do I need to run the URT on the production secondary PAN or running URT is only recommend via GUI/CLI Upgrade ?

Regards

Yes, you should still run the URT if you are able to.

1. Run URT on the secondary admin node

2. If it passes, take a backup

3. Restore

When you take a backup from an older version of ISE, the config and data has to run through the same upgrade process. Due to this, the restore can fail for the same reason an upgrade would. Running the URT is just a preventative measure to prevent failure.

You don't have to run the URT, it's not a hard requirement to upgrade.

However, we tend to reccomend it as if it's a requirement because it can catch major issues that will prevent a restore/upgrade. Since the backup data had to go through the same upgrade changes, it would be best to run the URT on the secondary PAN first.

Hi Damien.

Thanks for your help.

Just to be clear , If I do an upgrade via backup/restore, is still recommed to run URT.
