ISE 2.4 Licensing Changes and Affects to 2.3 customers who upgrade

Hello team,

Can someone please point me to documentation that shows all of the ISE 2.4 licensing changes and how existing deployments will be affected after the upgrade?

I know that one example of the 2.4 changes is with TACACS. TACACS licenses are now required per node and no longer per deployment.  For existing customers, the customer is entitled to 50 node licenses. My customer is running version 2.3 and would like to know what changes to expect when the company upgrades to 2.4 .

Best Regards,

Lauren White

I don't have any documentation handy to point you to that is all encompassing but as far as things that will change going 2.3 to 2.4.

1. If the deployment is built with VM's then 2.4 will now ask/nag for VM licenses to be installed. Previously these were RTU, you were supposed to have as many VM licenses as required for your deployment. You can email ise-vm-license@cisco.com, including the Cisco sales order the VM licenses were originally ordered on. They will convert them to new medium VM licenses in the exact quantity ordered.

Details on #1 here:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/identity-services-engine-24/213171-ise-2-4-upgrade-alarms-fewer-vm-license.html

2. TACACS licensing. As you noted already, when you upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4, the TACACS deployment license that was installed will be converted to 50 TACACS node licenses (50 VM's worth).

(Not directly licensing related)
The CPU requirements changed slightly from 2.3. With VM's you need to increase the vcpu from 6 or 8, to 12 or 16 depending on the VM template/scale. Ram might also change if you were using 3415/3495 templates as requirements are 16GB or 64GB for 2.4 (already there is using 3515/3595).
