We have a fairly static environment and I was thinking about configuring MAC authentication on the ports of my access switches - any drawbacks or reasons not to?

The thing with MAC auth is you're still susceptible to MAC spoofing. Have you considered 802.1x? Check out Cisco.com/go/ibns
