Accessing terminal of Cisco 1805 router

Hi, 

I have a 1800 series Cisco router (1805) and I am new to it. My aim is to reconfigure it by accessing the terminal. After going through the documentation related to configuring the router, it has been mentioned that I have to use a console cable from console port of the router to my laptop having a DB9 port. My question is, is there any other way to access the terminal without the use of a console cable?

Hello,

actually, unless you have already configured an IP address you could use to TELNET to, if the DOCSIS router is new, there is unfortunately no other way to use a console cable (either RJ-45 to DB-9 cable for the connection to a PC, or RJ-45 to DB-9 cable with a DB-9-to-DB-25 adapter for the connection to an ASCII terminal)...
