Cisco Prime Infrastructure 3.1 does not report failed power supply

Hello,

we're using Prime Infrastructure 3.1 and had an power supply failure at one of our 6509. Sadly, Prime did find out about this problem (I saw the error if I switched to the device view, env details) - but it did not send an email, nor raised an error / critical. Is there any way to configure Prime to raise an cricital error and send an email as soon as enviromental problems like failed fan, failed power supply or high temperature occur? This would be especially important to our Nexus 5k, Cisco 65xx and Cisco 45xx switches.

Thanks a lot,

Nico

  - Make sure Prime is set to receive snmp-traps and syslogging from the involved devices (or any switch which is monitored by Prime). Then do some testing , such as turning a PS off,see how Prime reacts.

Hi Marce,

so Prime does realize that an power supply or such failed via the normal SNMP/Telnet checks, but it does only give E-Mail alerts if it gets these errors via snmp-trap? (And I have to configure snmp-trap on every device?)

Nico

 - Not exactly sure but I do believe it is advisable to forward snmp-traps for each device to Prime in any case. Because this will also improve alerting concerning link up-down states (amongst others).
