Cisco Prime LMS Design

Hi,

I am trying to plan a design for multiple sites/zones for Cisco prime LMS. The scenario I have is as follows:

1. There are a total of 5 different buildings/zones. Do note this is within the same location however divided into multiple blocks/buildings

2. There are a total of 3 Cisco Prime LMS; 2 units for 2 of the builings/zones and the 3rd unit is the overview unit

3. There are no POE devices/802.1x requirements

I would like to check from a design point of view; what may possibly be used for the 3rd unit of the LMS which is used to monitor all devices. It is planned for the following:

1. To monitor all devices

2. To send traps on critical links failures/high cpu/utilization/etc...

3. To generate reports

Not too sure if there may be any useful administration on the 3rd unit/overview prime LMS?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks.

What's your impetus to roll out a multi-LMS design? Availability, scalability, or just organizational separation?

Taking on that level of complexity is typically justified only in the largest scale deployments. (5000 plus network devices) There is a Large Scale Deployment Guide Whitepaper that gives a good overview of how to do that.

If you only want organizational separation, you would be much better off using device groups and role-based access control to limit users to certain groups.
