CPI 3.3 Licensing Help

Hello,

I am trying to understand the licensing requirements needed to manage our Cisco switch estate using CPI. We currently have CPI 3.3 installed and are using it to manage our wireless provision, WLC’s & AP’s etc. We now want to manage all our 2K, 3K, 9K, N7K estate.

We currently have a number of Lifecycle licenses, which cover our Wi-Fi estate, and a base license covers the appliance.

I’ve been told that to add 2K, 3K, 9K, or N7K devices I need to use the following part codes.

L-MGMT3X-2K-K9=, L-MGMT3X-3K-K9=, L-MGMT3X-93XX-K9=, and L-MGMT3X-N7K-K9=

Now my understanding is that you purchase a license based on the device type and then the number of IP’s hosted on that device. This doesn’t seem that bad for a L2 switch, but with a N7K in mind you could have say 15 IP’s on there, so 15 X L-MGMT3X-N7K-K9= would be $27K (list price) That seems ridiculous to me.

Do you include all IP’s on the device, Loopbacks, VLANs, Interface etc, or just a management IP?

Does anyone have any guidance this? My attempts to find any good information on Cisco so far have not been good.

Thanks in advance

Dylan
