Device Type UNKNOWN

Hi All,

I'm am having a bit of trouble getting 2 recently added switches into LMS (one a 6509 and the other a 4500). They appear in data collections but it show device type unkown. Running a verification report results in device not reachable, though I can telnet to it from device center.. I'd appreciate it if anyone could offer some advice.

The telnet from Device Center is not an adequate test of reachability. That telnet occurs from the client, not the server. A better test is the Device Center's Management Station to Device. Test the SNMP read-only access. You can also try using the SNMP Walk tool with a starting OID of sysObjectID.

These symptoms sound like the devices are not SNMP reachable from the server.
