This may be a stupid question, but is it possible for Ciscoworks to be an effective Hardware Master Inventory repository.
90% of our devices are on the network on a day to day basis, and as such we have an accurate 90% inventory of our network at a given point.
10% of our network devices are on-the-shelf spares in various locations around the company.
Is it possible to enter these devices into Ciscoworks (RME?)in a on-the-shelf or pre-deployed state, thus preventing the likes of DFM from flagging a spare device as being down.
I may be overlooking something obvious, but in essence I would like Ciscoworks to be my full Hardware Inventory Database.
Regards,
J.

IMHO no for the following reason :
The devices are identified by either IP address or hostname in the inventory so if you swap out a device with a spare only the chassis ID will change in the device inventory or DCR.
