I tried notepad, WordPad, Word, Excel and the type command in dos. The only one that worked was the type command but I can only go back as far as the dos windows buffer is. Please note that my log is 909 MB and includes data from 2003, and 2004 that I would like to remove. So I guess the real question is how do you edit a log that big and has anyone done it.

you probably don't have enough memory on your system to open it
if all is working properly, you can stop the daemon manager service and delete the file
you might want to look into implementing logrot as well
(I believe it was added in IDU 9.0, check your CSCOpx\bin)

ultraedit is good for editing large files,
archiving the logs, perhaps once a month could make the log files more managable.
