Yes, it is possible to check what hardware components a Cisco server contains such as the CPU, memory, and network interface cards (NICs) using the server’s serial number (SN) or through system commands. If you only have the serial number and no direct access to the server, you can use Cisco’s official tools like the Cisco My Devices portal or the Device Serial Checker (both require a Cisco CCO login). These tools allow you to input the serial number and view detailed information about the server’s configuration, including the installed components.
If you have access to the server itself, you can retrieve hardware details using CLI (command-line interface) commands. For example, the show version command provides the system’s basic information including the serial number. The show inventory command gives a detailed list of installed hardware components, such as modules and power supplies. Another useful command is show diag, which displays diagnostic and hardware component information.
For Cisco UCS servers, which are part of Cisco’s Unified Computing System, you can use UCS Manager to view hardware specifications. By logging into UCS Manager, navigating to the “Equipment” section, and selecting the specific server, you can access the “Inventory” tab. This tab provides comprehensive details about the server’s CPU, memory, adapters, and NICs.

Look at the Bill of Materials used by the vendor.
