Hi all.
I have been told I can use "Kiwi" or "tftpd" to remotely log all 871 problems.
Can someone provide a pointer where detailed instructions are provided on this item ?
I need :
1) what servers can be used and how to configure them (both Win and Linux)
2) how to configure 871 to write detailed output
3) how to point 871 to remote server
What I am using now is "Cisco 850 Series and Cisco 870 Series Access Routers Software Configuration Guide" ...
>>> http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/800/850/software/configuration/guide/857sg_bk.pdf
Thanks. Sebastian.

Thanks, Leo.
The instructions I (also) got are :
1) enable
2) configure terminal
3) logging x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is ip address of syslog server
... but what is this goint to do ?
Just point that local logging to be replicated on remote IP ?
This is what it looks like ...
But .. what is it suposed to be on remote site ?
What kind of server ? How do I configure KIWI (if it has 1000 options ...) ?
Then, you come : "logging trap warning" -> what is this suposed to do ? Set up logging to maximum detail ?
And finally : I would like to have the Cisco official documentation on "how to configure logging to be remote" .....
I think it is not an "incredible" request ....
I mean ... if I buy a product as an 871 router, I would like to have the COMPLETE documentation on the item or subject ....
Thanks ! Sebastian.

The command "logging
A "local" is like a sub-directory. You can specify from your router which local you want to store your router logs. For example you have a switch and you choose local6 and your router uses local2, etc.
What kind of server ?
When I started with this I just used a PC ... until the HD got filled up.
Then, you come : "logging trap warning" -> what is this suposed to do ? Set up logging to maximum detail ?
The lower the values the higher amount of junks you'll get.

Cisco has "dropped the ball" on documentations particularly low-value ones.06-07-2011 01:32 AM
Thanks a lot, mr leolaohoo - just one last question ...
When we say ...
... Q.- "logging trap warning" -> what is this suposed to do ?
... A.- The lower the values the higher amount of junks you'll get.
What are the possible values for this expression ?
I have no numerical values to get higher or lower ...
I mean "warning" is 2, and "error" is 5 ?
Sebastian.
