Issue with HRSP tracking

Hello,

I'v been having some issues with my interface tracking in Cisco Packet Tracer.

First things first when i try to add the amount of points it needs to decrement it says its invalid input (see screenshot below)

Second when i put in the command without the points it accepts but doesn't update when the specified interface goes down. The second router only gives me a message that states it went to standby even tho it never left it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Hello,

Alright so I think i figured it out, i found a workaround by putting the priority to 105 so when the interface goes down it loses 10 points wich makes the other router active. As for the issue with HRSP tracking i'v put my second router on preempt and everything seems to work fine now.

I'l do a deeper drive tomorrow since i'm going to bed (European).

Thanks for the quick responses and assistance!

Cheers

Arne

Packet tracer dont  have some command, or some command limited.

Hello,

Did you point it to the track object you created first? Check contextual  help after the word "track" in the command. The command may not be available in PT.

standby [group-number] track {object-number} [decrement [priority-decrement]]

The word decrement is needed before the number as well.

Hi!

Thank you for the quick response.

The command is definitely available, i can add the command the the configuration.

Also i'v tried to add decrement its still not allowing me to specify how many points it loses.

I'v been using this post as guidance: https://community.cisco.com/t5/networking-documents/hsrp-tracking/ta-p/3107966

What does contextual help say after the gigabitEthernet ? Does it give you interface numbers?

I'm managing to put in the command, another issue is that when the tracked interface goes down my HRSP just completely fails. I'm no longer able to ping the virtual gateway after the tracked interface goes down.

This is a screenshot of my current setup (g0/2 is the interface i want tracked, and Gig0/1 is running the virtual gateway)

Make sure when everything is up that the HSRP Actkve and standby devices can see each other.

“Show standby brief”

If they don’t then HSRP isn’t working as expected.

Ill have to run a lab when I get home unless someone can answer it quicker. What version of packet tracer are you running? And better if you could attach the zip pot file so we could take a look.
