Licensing in cisco prime

we have purchase cisco prime for a customer, we have got software paper license from distry.  3 license is there with defferent PAK

1. R-PI12-BASE-K9

2. L-PILMS42-50

3. L-PI12-LF-50-LIC

i have register first one and got the license file as per instruction given by cisco.

but when i want to register rest 2 items it will ask the for target device, so what will be the target device ?

Hi Debu,

Rest 2 license are:

L-PILMS42-50                          Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 50 Device Base Lic

L-PI12-LF-50-LIC                        Prime Infrastructure 1.2 - Lifecycle - 50 Device Lic PAK

First one is for LMS (LAN Management Solution) and other is for PI 1.2

R-PI12-BASE-K9  >> this is the Base license which you have already installed,now you can install

L-PI12-LF-50-LIC to add more devices support in PI.

target is a Prime Infrastructure x.x version virtual device

virtual device means?

can u explane ?

we have already  1 5508 controller, 6 switches, 15 aps, so what will be the virtual device ?

Hi Debu,

The Product ID and Serial number of the Prime Infrastructure product can be found by
logging into the User Interface and visiting the Administration > Licenses Page 
and the summaryscreen will have the information you seek. If you have not deployed PI yet, then you have to do this first to get the information to fulfill the licensing.

Okay,

then i have to install the LMS 4.2 first then i have to assign the product id and serial no of virtual device (LMS 4.2)

this is the procedure ?

another thing is that we have not received any media(like CD/DVD), so how can i install? i have to download it ? if yes please send the link ..

okay then can i install LMS 4.2 in windows platform and PI 1.2 in a VM platform? how can it communice to each other ?

in registration part for PI 1.2 i have to assign VM platform serial no and product id, where it is asking for the same.

yes you can do that...

why you want to communicate with each other.. ?
