lms 4.1 cisco.com - is proxy needed?

lms 4.1 virtual appliance - for it to get to cisco.com (device updates, etc...) is proxy the ONLY option?  I'd rather have NAT set up, maintaining a proxy server is not something I want to do (again).

It works - didnt have correct firewall policies set up.

also - I'd recommend this being in the list of ports needed to make lms work on the deployment guide.
