My Client owned Ciscoworks 3.1 but we renumbered and renamed just about every device in the network as part of a refresh, so it was decided we would do a fresh install of 4.1 on a new server.  It all installed fine in eval mode. However now that the upgrade from 3.x to 4.x 300 devices license come through, I added it in through the admin>system>License Management page, It said the license was updated sucessfully but it does not update on the License management page, as below:

4. LMS 4.1 100 Evaluation Sun Dec 25 16:20:48 EST 2011

I added the licenses from the old server, and they went on fine.

1. CM 6.1 300 Purchased Never

2. DFM 4.1 300 Purchased Never

3. IPM 5.1 300 Purchased Never

4. LMS 4.1 100 Evaluation Sun Dec 25 16:20:48 EST 2011

5. RME 5.1 300 Purchased Never

6. VNM 2.1 Unlimited Purchased Never

Am i doing something wrong ?

Hi Scott,

try the following steps to fix the issue:

1. in CLI: pdterm LicenseServer - this will stop the License server manager

2. move ALL *.lic files from $NMSRoot\etc\license folder to some other place

3. in CLI: pdexec LicenseServer - this will start the License server manager

4. in GUI, try to install the license file you have for LMS 4.1.

Thanks Svetlana, worked like a charm.

One question... do i need the licenses from the 3.2 server, or does the LMS 4.1 license cover everything ?

If it work you do not need license for 3.2.

However, it is not general - there are different type of licenses available for 4.1. If you are interested, please have a look at  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/install/guide/prep.html#wp1355954.
