LMS will not start after patching

Ok this may be a blast from the past, but I returned from a week off to find that I could not log onto LMS 4.2 on W2K8 R2.  In fact, I cannot start LMS at all.  

E:\>sc start crmdmgtd
[SC] StartService FAILED 1053:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

The app event log contains this:

To make a long story short, 2 things (at least) happened when I was gone:

  1. Windows July 2017 patches were installed
  2. The disk that the application resides on filled up.  Note that this is not the disk the OS resides on.

Is anyone else experiencing this?  I seem to recall a problem in the distant past relating to the disk filling up, though a search of my support cases doesn't return anything.  Patches maybe?  Am I the last person on earth running this application?
