LMS Win Server 8 installation did not working - different options tried

Level 7

After following the instructions provided in the following forum discussions:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2130443

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9132

the installation of the LMS 4.2 (the end goal implies install 4.2.3) did not work as usual with this manufacturer apps. I am getting an error:

ERROR:  Failed to execute C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx/bin/cwjava.exe -cw C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx -

cw:jre lib/jre  -cp:p MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB

Something that should be relatively simple is an entire nightmare. I have tried at least 5 times to install this application (based on all the recommendations from the link and now I will have to rebuild the server and try from scratch). Can anyone please give me some orientation on this issue?

thanks a lot,

Abraham

If it is not installed yet, before starting try to follow this :

> Login as administrator (not the AD admin account but the local admin)

> Edit your environment variable proper (goto start > run > type sysdm.cpl > Advanced > Env Variable > edit TEMP and TMP to drive whihc has space or where you want to install LMS, like C:\TEMP or E, F:\TEMP etc)

> Clean boot your system (goto start > run > type msconfig > services > click on hide all microsoft Services (madatory)> disable the other third party services running in Server. Reboot and try to start the installation again.

Check if it works properly. Also, please check the md5 values of the LMS 4.2 package you have downloaded, as many time when the image corrupts it crates such vague issues.

For the one I see available for download in Cisco.com has following details :

Description:LMS 4.2 Evaluation Software for Windows
Release:4.2
Release Date:13/Feb/2012
File Name:lms-4-2-Win-eval.zip
Size:2115.92 MB (2218701925 bytes)
MD5 Checksum:a5911fa8420787a3d65a6f030971b347

Download link:

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284259296&softwareid=280775102&os=Windows&release=4.2.3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Attach is a MD5 checking utility. Just click on any file and drag it on this md5sums.exe, it will calculate the md5 value.

Hi Vinod,

Thanks a lot for answering. I will try what you indicated and let you know. However, I would like to mention the following:

-MD5 value which is fine. I already checked it.

thanks

Abraham

Same result, I am getting the error message:

ERROR: Failed to execute C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx/bin/cwjava.exe -cw C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx -

cw:jre lib/jre -cp:p MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB

Please go to start > run > type winver and share the screenshot of the result.

Hi Vinod,

I am also working with the TAC Engineer and we are still getting the same error. Do I need to modify the REGEDIT???. The TAC Engineer changed some values in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (environment and system -->ControlSet001/002 variables). In addition to that, she changed the USER VARIABLES for TEMP and TMP to a shorter value = c:\temp and added a PATH variable (this one was not there). Unfortunately the links that I mentioned before are not clear about REGEDIT reconfiguration or similar as needed.

I will attach in another note the screenshots you required.

I think I have two things I want to highlight.

As per the install log of your LMS, the installation sees some of the previous installed component, from install log :

SM_BROKER=TDSBCISCOLMS1:9002

Above is an Fault Monitor component. Alos, i see this server is a part of following domain :

USERDOMAIN=TDSBCISCOLMS1

I see following errors on the install log :

===================- Possible Warnings/Errors Encountered -===================
ERROR:  Failed to execute C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx/bin/cwjava.exe -cw C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx -cw:jre lib/jre  -cp:p MDC/tomcat/webapps/rme/WEB

AND

    Starting database engine cmfEng
Error loading: C:\PROGRA~2\CSCOpx\lib/jre\bin\server\jvm.dll

So it seems like we have mostly issues with Java permissions. I can think this to be an issue with your Server a part of the Domain. We ideally recommend to install LMS before adding it into Domain.

I think we must remove the server once from domain and folllow the uninstall and install procedure once again.

Hi Vinod,

As indicated by the TAC Engineer, we removed the server from the Domain and login to it using a local account before doing the LMS Installation that failed as I mentioned at the beginning.

See next screenshot sequence:

Vinod,

The information about the server that you are looking at is the old one. I decided to give a try in a completely new server but it also failed. I opened this post based on the new server failure/issue. This new server is not part of the domain.

thanks

Vinod, one more detail.

Even though I uninstalled the LMS and ran the clean_system, I could find some information about the CSCOpx in the REGEDIT for my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Please see next the screenshot sequence, thanks,

If you have already removed LMS on it. lets do the new install together, via webex. Let me know if possible in half an hour or so.

I am trying something else, I found that the KEY_CURRENT_USER had a PATH variable which is not in the Environment Variables ---> User Variables. So I removed it, uninstall the LMS again (clean_system was also used).

In addition to that, I am trying again the next from Cisco Forums (MERMEL and Joseph Clarke):

  • Message was edited by: MARTIN ERMEL try to uninstall LMS "uninstall Cisco Prime" but also use "clean_system.exe" after this; and for the new installation, enter "C:\Program_Apps\CSCOpx" as the installation path (not just C:\Program_Apps).
  • Set the per-user and global TEMP and TMP environment variables to short values (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)

However, from the REGEDIT, I still see some parameters CSCOpx from the previous installation in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the following folder/subfolders.

Wow6432Node -- > Apache Software Foundation --- > Procrun 2.0 --- > Tomcat --- > Parameters -- > SubFolders (Java, Log, Start and Stop). I do not know if this have to be changed. SEE NEXT SCREENSHOT

Hi Vinod,

My current time is 1:36 PM Toronto Time, until what time are you available for the Webex. I started another installation a few minutes ago before looking at your last reply.

thanks

I am in IST , GMT +05:30 so it is 11:10 PM for me now. I wont be available for long. But Now as the install is already started, did you deleted the existing registry?

if so, let the install carrry on and wait for the result.

-Thanks
