I have a catalyst 4506 switch with CATOS version 8.4(4)GLX.
Does software exist that I can use to monitor the bandwidth of the switch and each port?
I basically want to zero in on the machines that are producing high volumes of traffic.

HI, [Pls Rate if HELPS]
You can monitor the traffic pattern on each port by enabling the SPAN sessions.
You need to have some Packet Capture Tool (Ethereal) to verify the traffic.
>> Refer attachment for SPAN Configuration
Nevertless,
>> You can enable "ip accounting" on Switch port but make sure it may cause increase of CPU load sometimes.
In addition,
>> You can monitor the Traffic Load of the Swtich (may be Switch port ==> i am not sure) in a Graphical manner (5 mins avg, 30 mins avg, 1 day avg, etc.,) with MRTG Tool.
