Here's a thread from a couple of weeks ago that may help you (Thanks Martin):

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1dd73af0

A second, longer forum thread that also specifically details connecting to a W2K machine. Apparently it doesn't work so well. You can read about here:

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1dd73af0

I'd suggest what others have suggested, set-up a *nix NTP server or sync up with a Stratum 2 or 3 server on the internet.

Did you ever get this to work?

No. I was configuring it first time.

which chassis and what is your software ver.?

could you send ntp conf. lines.

Windows 2000 works only as a SNTP server. You have to edit two registry key on your w2k system (server or prof. version):

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\

Parameters

LocalNTP = 1

ReliableTimeSource = 1

It's working on cisco routers supporting the sntp protocol. On platforms only supporting ntp, I've never seen it working.

I was trying to sync my 2950 switches with a Windows 2003 server with the NTP enabled and it is getting it's time from an Internet source but the switches did not like the server as a source. It considered it "insane" even though the switches see it as a Stratum 3 source. What is odd is that a PIX firewall I have likes it just fine.

I finally installed Tardis 2000 on the Windows 2003 server and the switches seem to like to sync with it now. Here is the link in case someone is interested in the program: http://www.kaska.demon.co.uk/
