port flaps when PC is in Power saving mode

Hi Everyone

My Cisco LMS 2.6 installation reports a flapping port whenever a PC running Windows Vista Business is in power saving mode.

While this is not a major catastrophe, my syslog is filling up very quickly with more than 10,000 records within 24 hours.

Does anybody have any idea what to do? Is this problem solved with Windows 7?

Thanks.

- Andre

Whenever a PC/Laptop goes into the following states:

1.  Sleep mode;
2.  Log on/log off; and
3.  Powers on

You'll see in the switch logs four error lines:  2 to report layer 1 going down and up and 2 to report layer 2 going down and up.

This is normal.

What does the log message look like?

Absent that and other details, I'd venture a guess that in a best-case scenario, this could be addressed by disabling "logging event link-status" globally on the switch, and selectively enabling it per-interface, such as on the uplinks only.
