Hello,
I have a console blue cable db9-rj45 to connect to network equipments (using the COM1 serial port).
Using a terminal program (e.g. putty or teraterminal) I receive characters in the terminal (like the startup IOS or the console messages) but I can't send any character to the equipment like the return carrier to retrieve the command line. So there is no possibility to configure the equipment. This happens with a Win7-32bits computer.
If I use a win10-64bits computer with the same cable (in the same COM1) to the same equipment I can send characters and works fine.
I inspect the drivers of the two computers systems and they have similar microsoft drivers.
It is important to say that USB cable works fine in both computers system, but the Catalyst2960 just accept a RJ45 cable connection.
If any one had some similar issue, please help!!
Thanks!

You may have a bad COM1 port on the Win 7 computer. To check and see if it is sending characters try bringing up a terminal session, short pins 2 & 3, type some characters and see if they appear on the screen. If they don't it is probably the port.
Try the same on the Windows 10 to validate.
Hope this helps

Hi chrihussey,
As I said before, the win10 system works fine.
Nevertheless the tip of shorting 2-3 pins is a nice one :)
Thanks!

hello,
In a second round tests:
In two similar equipments (Catalyst 2960) the connectivity behaviour is very diferent, one I can connect with a blue cable db9-rj45 and the second one I receive characters in the terminal (the startup IOS) then it stuck. The very new information is the second one has a non default startup-config, so I suspect that is a problem in a running configuration.
I perform the procedures (with the reset button) to start a express setup and thereafter I can access via telnet to the switch using a ethernet (IP:10.0.0.1). But at this point I don't know what to do to erase de startup-config to set the factory defaults, in hope that I can console this switch.
New level help is needed.
Thanks!

Maybe this link will help:
http://notthenetwork.me/blog/2013/05/28/reset-a-cisco-2960-switch-to-factory-default-settings/
Looks like you have to delete the config.text and vlan.dat files from flash.
Good luck
