A seed device is where Cisco Works begins learning about your network topology. A core switch or router is generally a good seed.

Actually, for Campus Manager, since it is CDP-based, a core switch makes a better seed. The reason is that switches usually have more CDP neighbors than routers. However, if you have a router with many CDP neighbors, then it would make a good seed device.
