Dear Sir,
I have a situation where in one case I AM ABLE to send email from CiscoWorks through my smtp server and in the other case I am NOT ABLE to send email from CiscoWorks through the smtp server.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Case #1
From Device Fault Manager, under All Alerts
I choose an Alert ID and that takes me to Alerts and Activities Detail
I choose Notify and I am able to successfully send email through my smtp server.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Case #2
The Syslog purge job runs every night
This job goes to the same smtp server as was input in the job above.
But this time we always get the same error message in the smtp.log

[ Mon May 15 01:00:01 GMT+03:00 2006 ] ERROR [Util : sendMail] : Software caused connection abort: connect
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does (2) different processes get (2) different results?
This is the correct smtp mail server. It is the same mail server that is being used by my OUTLOOK application.
It seems that all other automatically run jobs have this problem.

You can set a SMTP host in DFM you can set another SMTP host in Common Services.
Are they the same?
Is exchange programmed to accept anything the Ciscoworks address?
Cheers,
Michel

yes, both are same.
but why we need to configure anything on exchange, as it's working fine in case1.

Why configure exchange? Because exchange want to speak to outlook, not to ciscoworks.
What Email ID did you configure in Common Services? It might matter
If I put in the wrong IP address for the SMTP it complains, so there is an instant SMTP test in LMS 2.5
Cheers,
Michel

Answered this in another post, but just in case anyone reads this post and is looking for the info:
Believe it or not Antivirus was blocking email notifications and needed to add cwjava.exe to the policy settings in McAfee EPO
Network Associate Anti-Virus blocked the port 25.
You should set this option.Start-->Network Associates--> VirusScan Console-->
Access Protection--> uncheck the prevent mass mailing worm from send mail 25.
Open Virus Scan Console and go into the properties for Access Protection, click on the Port Blocking Tab (if it's not selected by default), then click Edit on the "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail." policy and add it to the excluded processes list.

Wow, good catch! This has been bugging me for weeks. I never even thought to look at my AV app to see if it was eating email messages. Thanks very much for contributing that tip.

HI,
In support of Davistan, McAfee by default blocks SMTP traffic.
In case if you are running LMS 2.2 configured for Syslog Notification, you need to define FQDN instead of the IP Address of the SMTP server in the command.
