SWITCH CISCO CATALYST 2960-X SERIES

Hi,

I have a switch CATALYST 2960-X SERIES that was not working. I had to replace this switch with another cisco. I tried to reset the switch 2960-X to factory configuration, witch my computer connected to console port, but there was a message telling that the flush file was corrupted.

I downloaded a new flush file from internet (cisco site), turned off and turned on the switch, with the mode button pressed, but the switch was not load in switch mode. I'd like to delete the flush file in the switch and copy the new flush file, but I couldn't. Some one could help me? I would lke to know if it is possible to make this switch work again.

Thanks,

Robson

Hello @infraestrutura01

what was heppening to this switch when you devided to replace it?  and when you say "...but the switch was not load in switch mode..."

Which mode does this switch is loading?

Hello @Flavio Miranda, thanks for you attention,

It was crashing and I couldn't configure it through the browser. I could only configure it by command line.

I don't know if I'm correct but I read a documentation that say when we want to delete the corrupted flush file and copy another one, we must turn off the switch, push the button "mode" and turn on the switch. When the switch start, and the syst light starts to blink in yellow, we can release the button and access the switch by console.

The prompt of the console should show "switch:" (switch mode) and we could delete the old flush file e copy the new one.

Actually, with this procedure you deleted the config.  When you say flush,  do you mean flash: ?

So, you replace the IOS and you factory reset the switch, and it still have problem? Have you replace the IOS for another the same version? which version is it?

I couldn't replace the IOS. when I play the procedure (urn off the switch, push the button "mode" and turn on the switc), the switch doesn't start in a mode that I can run the procedure to replace the IOS.

The IOS I want to transfer to Switch is c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-2.E4.bin.

Yes, when I say flush, I mean flash.

Which mode is the switch now?

is it rommon?

- When I say the switch is in "Switch Mode", the prompt of the console is shown as bellow, and it's possible to execute the commands:

The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the
flash filesystem. The following commands will initialize
the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating
system software:

flash_init
boot

Switch>

- When I don't press the mode button, the prompt of the console is shown with the name of the Switch, and I can't execute the commands.

You can run "flash_init"

then you run "dir flash" to see the IOS file name

then you run "boot flash:ios-file"

I think the file c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4 isn't working very well. Every time when I try to boot with this file, it's shown the messages below:

Loading "flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4"...flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4: is a directory

Error loading "flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4"

Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process

System Configuration Dialog Enable secret warning cisco

This file is loaded even though, and it's not loaded with factory setting.

I reset the password, deleting the file config.text and restarting the switch. Now I can access the website of the switch, but but with the same problems I had when I decided to put another switch in it's place.

I'm going to delete the folder flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4 and to transfer a new file c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-2.E4.bin into the switch and to try to boot the switch with this file.

"I'm going to delete the folder flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4 and to transfer a new file c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-2.E4.bin into the switch and to try to boot the switch with this file."

sounds like a plan. But, you actually need to delete only the file.  delete flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4

ok, I'll just delete the file flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E4. Thank you for the tips.

  1. Power down the switch.
  2. Attach a console cable.
  3. Power up the switch.
  4. Post the entire boot-up process.
