Switch interface details

Hello, we've been moving from Juniper to Cisco and we're almost done with the transition. One of the things I'm working on is a report in Solarwinds, our monitoring application. This report should work since it did for the Junipers, but I'm not having luck. The report would return a list of all interfaces on each switch and would give the vlan they are assigned to as well as the port mode (trunk or access). At this time the only information returned is the list of interfaces on each switch. I believe we are using the correct OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.68.1.2.2.1.2 and I would think this information is collect by default anyway. We are also using SNMPv3 auth/priv. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Can I force the switch somehow to send that information to Solarwinds server? Thanks!

Ben

Hi, Ben.

You're using a correct OID (checked at my switch device). Maybe solarwinds can't connect to a device or don't has rights for viewing this MIB part? Also this oid gives only vlan of the access mode (this is just for info).

Best Regards.

I have SNMPv3 configured for the switch and in Solarwinds. There is a button to test the settings and that works so I think the connection should be ok. I haven't done anything crazy with views so it should be default. The switches we have are 3650 and a few 3850.

Well, we don't know what is solarwinds is checking. It could be just some common tree OID like device name or something like this. But it doesn't mean that the user has access to IF MIB at the network device.

It would be better to use something like snmpwalk or so to test access from the server with solarwinds to this OID of your network device.

Best Regards.

What are my options if everything is bottlenecking at the switch and shutting the internet down?
