The syslog files are just plain text and a lot of them can fit in relatively small amount of disk space.
I have one client for whom we do use the free Kiwi syslog tool. I just check the directory quarterly and remove any old log files greater than 6 months old.
You should also consider only logging at a level you need to for operational reasons and only capture more than that routinely if you are required to do so for compliance or legal reasons. I recommend level 4 for most day-to-day purposes.
