Hello Community,
We have to update some switches, and Cisco Prime gives us a strange Error:
Fail:Cannot activate stack device with bin image from GUI. Use CLI to activate the stack device with bin image.
Actually we are trying to update with *.bin from 15.2(3)E1 -> 12.2(4)E6 - it looks like the message only comes on Stack switches, but not on single units.

The *.tar way is going success, but why is it not possible to go with bin-images?
Thanks for any hints.

Actually we are trying to update with *.bin from 15.2(3)E1 -> 12.2(4)E6 - 12.2.X ?
Personally i stay way from Prime Upgrade, i prefere to do manually.

This is not going to work (even with Prime or not).
Look at the IOS version being used by Switch 1 and Switch 2/3. They are different.
Remove Switch 1 from the stack and upgrade this (use the TAR file) individually.
Leave Switch 2 & 3 in a stack and upgrade them (use the TAR file) normally.
DO NOT USE Prime to upgrade the stack.

- Check whether the device(s) you are trying to upgrade are compatible with the current Cisco Prime version ,google on 'cisco prime compatibility matrix'. And related : make sure a sufficient recent version of Prime is being used (fully patched and with latest device pack).
