Hello,

How to upgrade Prime Infrastructure from 3.3 to 3.8 version?

If I should make a new installation, how to export a database from the 3.3 version and install it in 3.8?

Regards,

  1. Backup your PI 3.4 DB, config and export them.
  2. Spin up a new VM instance with PI 3.8.
  3. Import the PI 3.4 DB and config into your new PI 3.8 instance.

If I good understood, I should first make an upgrade from 3.3 to 3.4?

I was of the understanding that you cannot restore anything below 3.6 back in to 3.8? I have 3.3 as well and the path I have tested on a VM was to do an inline upgrade from 3.3 to 3.7, take the application backup, install 3.8 fresh then restore the DB.

You can't go from 3.3 to 3.7 via inline upgrade then another inline from 3.7 to 3.8, Cisco blocks it because of a security issue. You can only go 3.3 to 3.7, fresh install 3.8 (or 3.8.1), then restore the 3.7 DB. From the 3.8.1 release notes (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/3-8/release/notes/bk_Cisco_Prime_Infrastructure_3_8_1_Release_Notes.html)

"You can restore backup on 3.8.1 only from the 3.6 and later versions .

For example: You cannot directly restore 3.0/3.1/3.2/3.3/3.4/3.5 on top of 3.8.1. You have to update to 3.6 or 3.7 or 3.8 version and then restore backup on the 3.8.1 version."

I ran the 3.3 to 3.8 path via TAC a few months back and they confirmed the same
