Hello,
we recently updated to the current version of CiscoWorks and have since that a problem with the DFM (Version 4.0 with all patches):
Alerts are shown in the DFM, however, the device name wrong! The name of another device is indicated. In the mail it is just the same:
ALERT ID = 0000119
TIME = Thu 21-Jul-2005 08:42:24 CEST
STATUS = Active
SEVERITY = Critical
MANAGED OBJECT = S104
MANAGED OBJECT TYPE = Switches and Hubs
EVENT DESCRIPTION = PORT-D11-2/0.6 [Fa0/6] [DVT-D11-B1-4 psD105]:OperationallyDown;
CUSTOMER IDENTIFICATION = admin
The event description shows the correct device (D11-2). In the syslog the announcement arrives still correctly with the IP of D11-2.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve that? Is really confusing...
greetings,
Ingo

The problem is that the IFIndex of the interfaces changes when you reboot. This is how nearly every NMS application identifies an interface. DFM presumes that the device does not reboot too often and thus the check on this is not done very often.To prevent this from happeningyou can use the If Persistence command on the device. This will ensure at the reboot the ifindexes are kept for each interface.

thanx for your reply, but...
- the switch has not been rebooted for several months
- the problem is not the name of the interface. The problem is the wrong name of the "MANAGED OBJECT". This name is used in the subject line from the notification mailer and in the column "Device Name" in DFM. It simply takes the name of another switch. The Event description (email+DFM) contains the correct device and interface.
btw: DFM version is 2.0.0

Thanks a lot, that seems to be the problem.
I hope there will be a fix soon...
