Anyone ever seen a message like this?
We're running v8.4(2) on a 5520. We detected no other anomolies around that middle-of-the-night timeframe.

When you saw that error message, pls grab a copy of the "show cpu" output and see if there is any issue.
If not, then most probably it's a cosmetic bug, otherwise, i would open a TAC case and get an engineer to further troubleshoot.

We're running 9.1.(1) and received a few alerts like the following:
: %ASA-2-321005: System CPU utilization reached 4294966%
show cpu
CPU utilization for 5 seconds = 1%; 1 minute: 0%; 5 minutes: 0%
I agree...probably a bug but alarming nonetheless. I plan to open a TAC. Thank you for posting -- your information helps!

Thank you for confirming the bug. What event is triggering it? The CPU remained at very low percentages when the alerts occurred.

Exactly, that is expected with the bug
Read the description of the bug:
This bug causes this message to be generated erroneously with incorrect CPU usage, for instance:
%ASA-2-321005: System CPU utilization reached 4294967%
%ASA-2-321005: System CPU utilization reached 4294964%
