ASA in pix firewall

Hi everybody:

Do you know if inspection engine and filtering in PIX Firewall works in both direction. (Lower to higher level and higher to lower interfaces).

I think it is related to the way ASA works.

Somebody of you can help me.

As far as I know the ASA works both ways... Take the FTP Application Inspection Engine as an example. You can take a look at the following document, it talks about it:
