Hi, we have upgraded our ASA from 8.0.2 - 8.2.4 and started having intermittent isseus with Lotus Domino. The emails wil lnot go thru for random email domains. We suspected that there is a issue with esmtp and we disabled the inspection. The emails starts flowing with no issue. We don't want to leave inspection off and we know esmtp inspection can be tweaked to different level.
Does anyone have any suggestion how to correctly setup esmtp inspection and to have Lotus sending/receiving emails properly? What level we should have esmtp configured at?
Thanks

Hello,
Do you have any syslogs that were generated when the inspection blocked an email? That will give us a good idea of why it failed. You can also try 'debug esmtp'.
I would also recommend setting up simultaneous, bidirectional packet captures on either side of the ASA so you can see how the inspection affects the SMTP traffic. Here is a document that will help walk you through that:

Hello,
I think we have the same issue.
I remove ESMTP inspection this evening, I have to wait now.
Did you find something about this problem ?
