ASA5555-X High Fan Rev.

aititsupport
Level 1
Level 1

ASA5555-X unit fans rev up high to normal continuoisly. The screen detail attached is from an old IOS but includes what is seen on the unit.  Looking to see if others have had this issue & resolved.

Upon start up the RPMs are in the high 4K range. After about 5 minutes the fans increase to low 7K RPMs with no increase in switch temperature. After about 10 minutes the fans increase to  low 9K RPMs with no noticeable increase in switch temperature. After about 15 minutes fans increase to mid 11K RPMs with no noticeable increase in switch temperature. After 30 minutes the fans increase and decrease in RPMs to between 7K and 9K with no noticeable change in switch temperature.

This can be seen in the detailed output below:

Aititsupport,

   Ambient 2: 30.0 C - OK  (Chassis Front Temperature)

What is the temperature in the room where this ASA is located? If it is anywhere close to 30*C, then that is the reason your fans are spinning so fast. A data center should be something like 24*C ambient.

Room temp ranges from 69 to 72.  The ASA is located under switches & patch panels, blades reside on alternate rack.

Ok, so after looking at other ASA units, it appears that this unit is missing the internal air flow plastic guide.  I know Cisco gear is not like purchasing spare parts off a parts diagrams list but would any one happen to know or have a way of obtaining a replacement internal air flow guide??

This is the plastic guide that sits behind that internal fans & guides the air flow to the cpu heat sink & ram.

Looks like some one may have removed it & never replace.
