Cisco ASA 5506-X reset to factory settings (Reset button does not work)

Hi everyone,

I just bought a used Cisco ASA 5506-X  to learn CCNA Security. The seller said there is Firesource license on it.

I powered it on, I hooked up an ethernet cable to slot 2  and the other end to my laptop. My laptop got an IP 192.168.1.X. I followed the instruction, I tried to connect to 192.168.1.1/admin. However, there was a kind of time out error said the page takes too long to load.

I guessed I had to reset the firewall so I hit the reset button on the back of ASA for 5 seconds. Nothing happened.

Is there anyway I can do to access the admin panel through web browser? Or if I have to reset it, how can I reset it when the reset button does not work?

Thank you!

If the button has been disable via the "no service sw-reset-button", it won't work.

if you have console cable connect let it boot.

config t
configure factory-default

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi BB, Thank you!

I just ordered a USB to RJ-45 Console cable, I will try follow steps.

Hi,
I am at ciscoasa>

I type in ciscoasa>enable but it asked for password.

Since I don't have password. How can I bypass it to reset the ASA to factory default?

Thank you!

please ignore, I just found the solution here : https://community.cisco.com/t5/security-documents/asa-password-recovery/ta-p/3126046

Thank you all for help!

Just press Enter key without any password because the device doesn't come with any default password.
