All,
I was looking to find out if anyone knew how the ASA DCHP server works on an ASA firewall? How does it determine what IP addresses to hand out?
I ran into a situation where it appeared as if the ASA was handing out IP addresses that were already allocated. By default, does the ASA check to see if the IP is alive before handing it out?
Thanks for the help,.

Yes you can have DHCP Server on ASA. its DHCP Server task how to hand over the IP address. and depends on Lease Time.
There is only case i see duplicate IP address, depends how the DHCP Snooping and Security setup.

Do you know where I can find any documentation on how the ASA determines the IP address to hand out? I am trying to find the finer details in the ASA DHCP operation. Config guides do not tell me much.
Thanks,
Jason

ASA DHCP Order of operation, nothing special, its general DHCP Operation lease work in standard.
May be ASA is is meant to be Firewall not a Full Blown DHCP, may have some limitation, those can be refere in relase notes of ASA Code you using.
