EIGRP routing in the FWSM

Hi All

We recently enabled the EIGRP routing protocol on the inside interface. The firewall is a single-mode, active/standby resilient FWSM pair. Routing is fine, but I have noticed that the EIGRP peerings on the standby device is not activated until the standby device goes into the active state. Until such time, the standby device's routing table shows only connected and static routes. When the standby device goes active its failover mate's EIGRP peerings are lost.

Is this the expected behaviour?

I was trying to find the documentation regarding this behaviour......

Regards MJ

Hi

Yes, I've seen this before. Generally speaking we run OSPF on our FWSMs, but I guess EIGRP and OSPF will be pretty similar in this respect. The routing process doesn't seem to run fully until the FWSM becomes active.

We end up having to add static routes to all of our FWSMs as our network management stations are in different subnets.
