FQDN for creating a Client to Site IPSec Tunnel

Hello,

We are trying to set up a remote VPN with ShrewSoft and you have just created a video which is helpful but it kind of glosses over the FQDN as being something you are automatically going to have. This is just a small office/site where one or two people will occasionally need to remote in to the Network and we have several domains for our websites but no need for a name server device in this office. We do all of our email in the cloud. Can someone tell me how to create an FQDN on a PC or our RV260W so the ShrewSoft software will work? Or can the RV260W assign a static IP for this purpose only? Or something? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. We have fast connection, and a nice router now. Would be nice if we could remote in to the network rather than through what we do now. (Similar to GoToMyPc) Thanks in advance!

If i undertand correctly.

You looking remote users to connect using VPN to RV260W and browse the site internally hosted.

if this is the case you do not need FQDN, you can have internal DNS name like bbandi.local (create bbandi as host record in your extiing DNS Server) and point to PC IP internal one example x.x.x23(where your web server running)

Other way you want to have public access this x.x.x.23 as fully qulified domain.

then you need to have static IP address (Public)  - y.y.y.23 do Static NAT with x.x.x.23

make your part of domain ( example :  remote.yourdomain.com  - make remte host entry in your public name server point to y.y.y.23)

NAT Example :

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Thank you so far. Let me ask in much simpler terms. I have one computer at
home here on different ISP with an ASUS AC5300 Router, I want to connect to
the computer at the office that has a file on it that I want to access and
update. That computer is connected to the RV260W

We have a website and or domain but that has nothing to do with this
scenario unless it can benefit us somehow? That website is hosted somewhere
else far away on different computers/servers.

What is the simplest way you can tell me to connect this computer, to the
computer at work? Trying to use ShrewSoft and the Cisco RV260W if at all
possible.

Like I said, the video seemed kind of simple and basic, (For an
intermediate like myself), but basically just gives FQDN as the only option
in the setup scenario. In the manual it also states that there is an option
for a USER FQDN (And this can be selected inside the RV260), such as an
email address? SO does that mean I could just put my email address in there
and that will fulfill the FQDN qualification to make the secure connection?
Please send more clarification on this as an option if you have it as it
seems like that should be quite easy but perhaps it is so new as I cannot
find any other reference for it anywhere on the web.

Or if you can give me the easiest instructions to somehow set that computer
at work, and or RV260), as an FQDN to meet these requirements, that would
be awesome.

BTW, I think I got what you are saying regarding the NAT but in order for
that to work I would need to contact my ISP to set a static IP on my home
PC/Router correct?

Thanks in advance!

since you do not have Static IP, and you need to Setup Dyna DNS to get mapped with your Public IP changing Dynamically.

Instead Simple solution for me now, rather make Technically complicated.

Team Viewer is the good solution, so you can connect with user registration.

Hope this information helps you.
