Dear Sirs,
Please, help me in solving the following problem. I have 7604 router with FWSM module in module 3.
First of all the FWSM CF has been damaged, not physically. I bought the new same compact flash (size, partnumber, etc.). Downloaded the software 3.2 for FWSM, and ASDM from Cisco website. I realized that the procedure of creating new CF for FWSM is quite diffucult: creating 1-5 partitions, where 1 - is MP, and 4th - application partition. According to cisco documentation - the default boot partition is the 4th, so I partitioned from 7604 the CF into 4 partitions (partition disk1: <1-4> maximum) and copied the software and ASDM to the 4th partition (disk1:3:). Removed the CF from the router and put it into the FWSM module.
Then I typed:
7604(config)#boot device module 3 cf:4
7604#hw-module module 3 reset cf:4
In the result the following mistake monitored:
*Sep 8 05:02:22.143: %C7600_PWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 3 set off (Module Failed SCP dnld)
The "show module" monitored:
7604#sh module

Then I typed:
7604(config)#power enable module 3
The result was the same. It power up for a while, then shut down with the same mistake:

While looking through forums in searching the solution, I saw that it might cause of high temperature or low power supply, so I typed:

I even tried to connect to FWSM via console cable to PC console port on FWSM board, according to this info: https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-11747. But I couldn't see anything because of frequent shutdown.
I'm sure that the FWSM module still alive, cause I can clearly it's description, partnumber, serial number. And I think that all the problems because of not right compact-flash creation for FWSM module.
Please, help me in this case! Maybe you've already faced with such problem? Thank you in advance!

Hi Andrey,
The message you are seeing on the switch (%C7600_PWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 3 set off (Module Failed SCP dnld)) typically indicates a communication/hardware problem between the FWSM and the backplane of the chassis. There are a couple of things you can try if you haven't done so already:
1. Re-seating the module (ensure the module is seated tightly and correctly when you re-insert it).
2. Insert the module in a different slot
If these steps don't resolve the issue, you'll need to open up a TAC case to have the FWSM replaced.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for advise, but I've already re-seated the module. And ensured that the module is seated tightly and correctly. Also inserted to different sllot. It didn't help.
I can't also open a TAC case cause we haven't got smartnet for it.

Almost a year I've tried to find the solution that would fix the problem, and everyone said "you need to open a TAC case, RMA, it's a physical problem". It's a funny thing that my homie had the same FWSM module, and I asked him to create an image of the CF card, while prophilactical works. He shared it. I've restored the image by using the most simple Unix command "dd" and Hooray! The FWSM is alive!
So thank you for advices, but I found the solution by using the "Grandpa's method"

Hello , I have exactly the same problem , but am unsure of the process using 'dd'
I have another FWSM in another 6509 and it is working fine.
but on either 6509 - when i type:- show boot device - the responce is:- Firewall Module [Mod: 9]:
no mention of cf:5 like i have seen in other posts.... Help Please

Hi.
hm... to view the fwsm image from CF card, you have to login to FWSM module via Session slot 9 proc 1 and use the commands like:
dir disk(0):4 or disk(0):5

came fwm module without CF. Please send me on my mail
bvn@bvn.su dump. Help her to reanimate

Dear Andrey,
I am experiencing the same problem on my FWSM, Is it possible to share the CF image?
Thank you in advance
