How to show age of an ASA

Hello,

I know that it's possible to know the age of a switch with its serial number

But how to know the age of a CISCO ASA?

The serial number of an ASA does not have the same form.

ASA actual age can still be deciphered using the serial number. The first three characters (alphabetic) are the manufacturing location code. The next two are the year of manufacture, starting with 1997 = 01, 1998 = 02, etc.

For instance, here is my home lab ASA 5506:

asa5506-lab# sh inv
Name: "Chassis", DESCR: "ASA 5506-X with FirePOWER services, 8GE, AC, DES"
PID: ASA5506 , VID: V01 , SN: JMX1913Z0EK

"19" indicates it was built in 2015. (JMX is Jabil (the manufacturing facility of these ASAs) Mexico.)

Note an ASA has two serial numbers - the chassis and the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). "show inventory" gives you the chassis serial number. "show version" gives you the PCB serial number. Smartnet support is tied to the chassis. License PAKs are issued against the PCB.

show version can give you serial number, with that you can find the device coverage.

as per the age concerns, it does not matter, based on the model you can define when it released ?

Sure! To determine the age of a Cisco ASA firewall, you can check the manufacture date on the chassis or use the "show version" command in the CLI. This acts like an Age Calculator for hardware information.
