Hi

We are replacing an ASA5520 with a 5525-x.

ASA5520 version 8.4(1)

ASA5525X version 9.2(2)4

Can anyone advise the best approach please. Ist it possible to backup the full config file on one using ASDM and restoring on the other.

Thanks

I would backup your existing config to tftp or copy it to notepad via show start

Then update the 5520 to 9.x and it will update the config to be compatabile with 9.x as some config options changed from 8.x to 9.x

If for some reason stuff does not work you can revert back to the 8.x version

Once you verify everything is working you can then copy the config to the 5525 via tftp or notepad and copy and paste it

hi,

i'm also about to do the same but on a 5510 to a 5525x. here's my advice:

1) issue show version on 5520 and back up activation keys (if there's any) and transfer them to 5525x.

2) issue more system:running-config on 5520 (to get enable passwords, etc) and copy/paste in 5525x. i would do this line per line on CLI just to be sure.

3) issue write erase on 5525x. this will remove DHCP config, management IPs and other unwanted default config.

4) upgrade 5525x to 9.x and latest ASDM. the latest i've saw on cisco site was 9.2.4 and ASDM 7.4.3.

NAT on 8.4 is not much of a difference on the 9.x code except there's any4 on the newer code.
