Hello,
I have a question regarding an ASA 5506-X with a classic PAK license. The customer that I work for doesn't have a failover pair, instead he have a spare 5506-X on the shelf and in case the ASA crash he just want to plug in the spare and be up and running.
Beside restoring the configuration, how about the license? He have some AnyConnect licenses on the current ASA and I guess the license key is tied to the hardware, meaning he cannot just transfeer the license key to the spare.
Do he need to buy another license for the spare ASA or should he contact the Cisco license support and ask them for help transferring the license to the spare in case the current ASA becomes broken?
And what about if he convert the classic license to a smart license? In that case I am assuming that the licenses becomes free when the broken ASA stops communication with the license server and he can use the license on the replacement ASA, but I'm not sure the 5506-X support smart licensing though?
Thanks

meaning he cannot just transfeer the license key to the spare.
in this case you need to buy a License for another kit. but what is challange to transfer to another device, since old one failed ?( that is how we transfer license when cisco send you RMA right ?)

You can contact Licence team to help you moving the Licesence valid from one device to another providing Licenses.
if this is smart License you can manage automatically - depends on what ASA code running.

The ASA 5506-X only uses classic licenses (PAK-based). You may be able to rehost the license derived from the PAK in the customer's LRP (License Registration Portal) section of software.cisco.com. Otherwise it willl require support from the licensing team as noted by @balaji.bandi.

Thank you @balaji.bandi and @Marvin Rhoads. Much appriciated.
