Upgradation of ASA firewall Firmware

Dear Team,

I am having two cisco ASA 5510 firewall with existing firmware as asa825-k8.bin (8.2(5)). I need to upgrade the firmware to the latest version. As I gone through the cisco documents, CISCO recommends that minimum 1 GB RAM is required to upgrade to the 8.3 tree.

My query is, If I upgrade the RAM and upgrade the firmware to the latest, any throughput effects will occur in the firewall and results in the up gradation of entire hardware.

Please help with your suggestions.

Regards,

Charly

I haven't seen any changes in throughput after upgrading any of the legacy ASAs (mostly 5510 or 5520) to 8.4 or 9.1(x).

If your ASA is running on an acceptable load (my definition for acceptable would be something under about 40%), then there should only be benefit in upgrading. If your ASA is running under high load, you should think about upgrading to one of the new models like 5512-X or 5516-X.
