Which FWSM version 4.x are you trying to upgrade it to?
There are 2 major releases in version 4.x: ie: 4.0.x and 4.1.x
Please kindly find below respective release notes, and it also contains the 6500 IOS version requirement, which SUP and also which is the corrensponding ASDM version:
FWSM 4.0.x:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm40/release/notes/fwsmrn40.html
FWSM 4.1.x:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm41/release/notes/fwsmrn41.html
Hope that helps.

Hello again,
Thanks for your quick reply. I'm planning to go to the latest i think it's 4.1(6), can i do this directly from 3.1(11)? Do you know about changes that may occur in configuration? In our 6500 we have s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF14.bin and if i'm reading the document correct, fwsm version 4.x is supports.
Thanks.

Yes, you are right. You can upgrade directly from 3.1.11 to 4.1.6, and the version of IOS is OK too.
All the changes are listed in the release notes provided earlier.
