hi,

on my root switch when I run #show spanning-tree vlan 20 details, I get the below:

Number of topology changes 5020 last change occurred 03:45:37 ago
from GigabitEthernet1/0/22

But when I try to see what is connected to GigabitEthernet1/0/22 by doing show mac-address table or show cdp neighbors, there is no output, the interface status shows that it's connected though. I don't have physical access to the site. Is there any other command I can use to see what port is connected too?

I have a quite high cpu utilisation on my switch and the number of topology changes seems to be quite high,  I'm trying to find out whats going on.

Thanks

You need to post below output what causing the issue.

give us more information :

1. what is the device model

2. what IOS running

3. post show process cpu sorted | ex 0.00

Some device may have malfunctioning so we dont get MAC address, if you think that is the port you suspect and shutdown the port- rather whole network collapse for some reason. and see if that improves.

than leave for while, ask some one onsite and visit and see what is the device and take action, is this required to be in the network or can be removed.

We need to have full version - post-show version - as per 12.2 is too old and have some bug, we can only confirm once we see the full version.

ARP Input - is taking CPU as per your output, it all depends - 48% for the time posted as not high as expected.

what is the outcome after the port shutdown?

Let us know the outcome once you shutdown the port is this stable or you still have issues.

i would suggest upgrading to the latest stable - 122-55.SE12 and test it.

one thing we missed here, is this causing issue only if that port connected, and you never had any issue before?

the port was connected to a server, so I configured portfast and bpduguard on it. I don't see mac address flapping any more on the switch. I still dont know why I couldn't see the mac address.

if it is connected to esxi, esxi has internal vswitch. glad all working as expected. so we close this ticket now.
