This document is designed to provide a reference guide for locating frequently requested information regarding pluggable optical transceivers;  better known to as GBICs, SFP/ SFP+s, XFPs, XENPAKs, X2s or other.  Although much of this information is found on Cisco’s website, sometimes it can be difficult to locate.

Tom,

Good document. It is good to see all of that information in one location. I don't think that you have this link listed, but you might consider adding it. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/optical/ps5724/ps2006/brochure_c02-452560.html

That will show you all of the pluggable modules for the 15454, 15310, and 15327 that can be used with each card and which software loads.

Rex,

Thank you for the information!  I don't remember ever seeing that ONS information before.  I have added it to my document and reposted.

Tom,

Here is another good link for GBIC, SFP and XFP on the Cisco ONS platforms.

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/spares/gbic/guides/ppms2.html#wp203291

This link includes installation guidelines along with descriptions, specifications and compatibility matrices.

Steve,

Thank you for sending the link to the installation document for the ONS-Series Transceivers.  I have added it to my document (v4).

Tom,

Another document for consideration is one titled "Clarifying Optical Parameters, Power Budgets, and Fiber Plant Requirements for 10GBASE-E and 10GBASE-L".

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/ps6574/prod_white_paper0900aecd8033fa80.pdf

The document illustrates the different methodology regarding selection of 10GB optics compared to 1GB optics.

Jay
